After living in Paris for 11 years, 7 of them being spent working as buyer for Ralph Lauren, London came calling and a job as a fashion scout. Which didn’t last long luckily for me as I got to work for the seminal Artomatic which was an amazing experience and gave me my love for all things print. There is nothing quite like the smell and feel of something freshly screen-printed.

Being the buyer for the 3 Artomatic stores and co-curating the first show of its kind “I like Printing” which had work from artists such as EINE, REAS, ESPO, KAWS, KR, Dalek, Ryan McGinness, Robert Del Naja (3D from Massive Attack) and Tom Hingston to name but a few.

When Artomatic sadly closed its doors I decided I had to carry on the great work we had been doing…so was born BEST.  Housing the best of everything in Design, Art and Clothing. Situated on Back Hill in Clerkenwell opposite what was then St Martins, it became the place to visit (we were even on the curriculum as a must see visit for Goldsmiths college, and St Martins).

Every 6 weeks we would pack down the shop and let an artist have free reign, have a private view and then the next morning put the shop back together again. We gave shows to a lot of emerging artists who are now very successful, plus some amazing already established artists such as Mike Giant, Dalek, Matt Sewell, Adam Neate, Pinky and INSA.

After 4 years of the most amazing feedback, events, and creative meeting of minds, it was time to hang up my shopkeeper’s apron for pastures new as I was going to be having a baby Best. Moving to Brighton was a wonderful move, but I missed my shop terribly – so Best had a new online home bestshopever.com – and various pop up shows that I curated.

The Best Shop still exists online with a whole host of amazing prints – along with the Best Blog Ever archive where you can read all about our exploits as “the only store to visit when in London” – thanks Colette :)

From all my creative contacts grew a small consultancy which has now outgrown itself, so much so it needs its own website….

So here it is Niki Best Interiors, Design, and Events – where all my experience comes together under one roof, Art, Design and attention to detail always being the centre of everything I do.
